The club has a small, but well-equipped gym, available for use by members at a cost of £1.50 per session. Having recently been re-decorated and some new equipment purchased, the gym offers very good value for money. Whilst gym use is included in the package for squash and racketball members, a gym-only category is available for those not wishing to use the court facilities.
The gym, which is unsupervised, provides a relaxed, friendly space where people can exercise at their own pace without feeling intimidated by super-fit fellow users. It is used by a wide variety of people of different age groups, although the minimum age is 16. Gym bookings are made via the online booking system.
The gym is managed by a sub-committee, and there is an annual budget set aside for the upkeep of the facilities and to replace gym equipment.
To help you to achieve your fitness goals, the gym is equipped with modern and well-maintained cardio, resistance and weight-training equipment. TV and music facilities are available for use in the gym.
There is a comprehensive range of cardio-vascular machines, including treadmills, X-trainers, exercise bikes, rowers, and a cardio-wave machine.
The resistance equipment, provided by HUR, is all powered by compressed air, rather than the more traditional weights-driven equipment. It has the same functionality as the weights machines, but occupies much less space, and offers a wide range of exercises for upper and lower body training.
Finally, there is a multi-gym, offering some exercises not available on the HUR machines, and 2 sets of dumbbell free weights ranging from 1 kg up to 25 kg.
New users of the gym are required to complete an induction to become familiar with the equipment and rules for use of the gym. During the induction you will be shown how to use all of the exercise machines and equipment to ensure you to get the very best out of it.
Inductions last approximately 1hr depending on previous experience and will be arranged upon finalisation of your membership.
